It is responsible for the supervision and management of drug, medical device, cosmetic, and food safety in the consumer sector. The CFDA was officially established on March 22, 2013, with Zhang Yong, the director of the State Council Food Safety Committee Office, serving as the first director and party secretary of the National Medical Products Administration.
