Chairman Tan Hong of Bo Shi Zhi Xing becomes the cover figure of 'Discovery' magazine

In October 2022, a special interview article titled "Planning the Future of China's Biomedicine with People's Health at the Center" was published in the renowned magazine "Discovery" by the China Association for Science and Technology. The main figure of the article, Chairman Tan Hong of Boshi Zhixing, became the cover person for this issue, marking the 451st issue of the magazine in its 24-year history.

Mr. Tan believes that the ecological environment of China's biomedicine is undergoing tremendous changes, entering an unprecedented era of innovation. 'With people's health at the center' is not merely the exclusive task of biomedicine. For over 1.4 billion Chinese people, this is far from enough. The concept of health has transitioned from a purely biological model to a multidimensional 'big health perspective' that includes biological, psychological, social, environmental, cultural, and educational aspects. Life and health is a process of comprehensive care; in the face of modern diseases, reactive treatments initiated after the fact are often too late. At the base of the big health pyramid are the fundamental life engineering projects closely related to the people's daily needs, requiring scientific coordination, overcoming difficulties, and fulfilling missions from all relevant parties.
Mr. Tan stated that during the three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, China first controlled the outbreak, stabilized the epidemic; from nationwide testing and vaccination to gradually reopening and fully restoring economic and social normalcy. What was the key to this? Besides our advanced institutional superiority and the united efforts of the people in fighting the epidemic, the contribution of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is indispensable and admirable! TCM's 'four zeros' in the fight against the epidemic: zero severe cases, zero deaths, zero positive conversions, and zero recurrences, fully demonstrate the powerful efficacy of TCM's unique views on life, health, disease, and prevention and treatment. From the philosophical thought of harmony between heaven and humanity to the millennia of accumulated essence of TCM, we have gained profound insights and strong confidence in TCM. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party clearly proposed 'the inheritance and innovation of TCM', pointing the way for the health protection of 1.4 billion people. 'Draw from nature, serve the people', 'Only what is local can be global.'
She proposed to use the 'cumulative effect' of modern biotechnology to get close to nature, explore ecological value, and stimulate ecological vitality; shifting from a singular 'disease-centered' pharmaceutical technology development to a 'people's health-centered' approach focusing on prevention, health maintenance, and physical fitness, establishing a systematic ecological health industry system to inject healthy energy into the grassroots of the big health pyramid. The interdependence and symbiosis between humans and nature allow resource development and utilization to support the happiness of contemporary people while leaving a fertile foundation for future generations. Together, we strive to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
