On November 19, 2014, the 9th International Summit of Heads of Medicines Regulatory Agencies was held in Beijing, with participation of heads of medicines regulatory agencies from 25 countries and international organizations, including the US, EU, Australia, Japan, BRICS countries and World Health Organization (WHO). Zhang Yong, Minister of China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), attended the Summit and delivered a speech. Wu Zhen, Vice Minister of CFDA, chaired the opening ceremony of the international event. The summit is themed on “Global Regulatory System of Medicines Based on National Regulatory Systems”. Participants made presentations on 15 topics in three sessions, namely “evaluation and approval of drugs”, “drug GMP inspection and supply chain” and “collaboration on global monitoring and response to SSFFC medical products”. Participants exchanged views on the main challenges and countermeasures in the field of drug supervision, discussed future development trend and regulatory thinking, and called for policy coordination and international cooperation among regulatory agencies.
